Cultivating Curiosity

Being curious is a matter of practice. It’s a lot like meditation. When you spend time being mindful, it becomes easier to be mindful. When you spend time being curious, it’s easier to continue being curious.

Everyday objects can serve to incite curiosity. When I look at a doorknob, I’m intrigued by why it was designed the way it was. I think about the future iterations of a doorknob. What do people look for in a doorknob? Some criteria might be convenience, accessibility, style. In the future, there may just not be any doorknobs. Doors that you have access to might just automatically open when you look at them. I could continue that train of thought for as long as necessary.

Cultivate your curiosity. It probably won’t kill you.
